Fire 2 - Course Outline

This extended basic fire fighting course will be enable employees to fight
insipient-stage fires in the workplace using basic fire fighting equipment.
This fire fighting course incorporates the specific outcomes and assess-
ment criteria of the SAQA registered Unit Standard.

This extended basic fire fighting training will be enable employees to
identify different classes of fires, and to contain, prevent and extinguish
different types of fires by operating basic fire fighting equipment. This
extended basic fire fighting course is a hands-on, practical course but
includes formal instruction on the various aspects of fire safety and
prevention, fire behaviour and basic fire fighting equipment, techniques
and procedures.
This extended basic fire fighting course includes topics such as identifying
the type of fire, evaluating its context and selecting the appropriate fire
fighting procedure; identifying, selecting and checking appropriate fire
fighting and safety equipment including fire hoses and hydrants; fighting
containable/extinguishable fires; retreating from fire site and handing over
to appropriate personnel; reporting/recording the status of fire and
equipment; basic life support and care for burns.

Extended basic fire fighting course contents

•  Fire policy in the workplace – prevention strategies and safety
   procedures.
•  Industry safe practices (Occupational Health and Safety Act)
•  Consequences of non-adherence to safe practices.
•  Personnel procedures: how and when to call the fire department.
•  Evacuation procedures.
•  The theory of fire and how fire spreads; causes of fires; classes of
   fires.
•  Firm understanding of how the equipment is to be used to its full
   potential
•  Fire fighting techniques; fire fighting procedures.
•  Practical participation in dry powder fire extinguishers, hose and
   hydrant drills.
•  Internal sprinkler systems, booster pumps.
•  Pillar hydrants.
•  Basic life support and care for burns.

N.B. Leaners must be reasonably fit with no underlying injuries
e.g. back, hip & joints.


Learning material will be handed out 7 days prior to the course, to allow
learners to complete the pre-course assignment.
The advance preparation is imperative for the learners to prepare them
for the course.
N.B.  All learners attending the two day course must bring the learning
material with them together with the completed pre-course assignment
without which they will
not be accepted onto the course and full fees
will be charged
.

Course duration: 2 Days (1st day On your premises or at IEFA,
2nd day Venue to be advised)
Time: 08h00 – 16h00
Price: R1,370-00 per person excl. VAT
Cost includes:
Pre-Course material (to be collected from IEFA 1 week prior to training).
All learners must bring the completed pre-course material with them on
the 1st day of training.
Fire Training Manual, Laminated Memory Card, Assessment & Portfolio of
Evidence, Certificate of Competence valid for 2 years.
