About our First Aid Training courses

  • Our courses are fully outcomes-based and cater for all levels of training including individuals with limited reading and writing skills.
  • The training materials, which are continuously updated, are designed to provide learners with the most current theory and practical guidelines for rendering emergency first aid.
  • Our teaching aids and equipment are of the highest quality and include imported manikins and also imported ACTAR 911 CPR manikins. Our audio visual aids include PowerPoint presentations, videos, slides, OHP transparencies, anatomical charts and flip-charts.
  • The courses consist of workshops in which formal instruction, practical demonstrations, exercises and assessment opportunities are given.
  • The training manual consists of units. Learning outcomes are stated for each unit in the manual and learners are presented with course information and summaries to assist them achieve these outcomes. The manual also contains assessment guidelines and self-assessment activities, which will help learners to monitor their progress.
  • The courses are concluded with formal learner assessment. Every effort is made to ensure that assessment practices are relevant, transparent and fair.
  • Certificates are given on successful completion of the course and formal assessment. If any learner is not yet competent, he/she may repeat the course at no extra cost. The certificate is valid for three years after which learners will be required to redo the course. This legal requirement is stipulated for all first aid courses to enable first aiders to keep their skills sharpened and to become familiar with new practices and procedures.
  • Learners are encouraged to actively participate in their selected course, ask questions and to keep the facilitator informed of needs through asking for the support and help that they require.
  • As part of IEFA’s ongoing support, first aid teams are encouraged to participate in the first aid competitions held every two years.
  • Refresher courses are also held regularly.
  • Courses are run at our training centre where there is ample safe parking. Alternatively courses may be run on site.
